The village became well known when in 1963 Aristotle Onassis bought the nearby island Scorpios, and since then has hosted many celebrities from all over the world. In the village there is a statue of Aristotle Onassis.
Near the beach there is also a statue of Wilhelm Doerpfeld, who made excavations on the island and came to the conclusion that this is the real (Homer) Ithaca of Odysseus.
In a small distance near the village you can visit the waterfall in the gorge Dimosari.
